A facelift or rhytidectomy is an operation to tighten the sagging skin of the lower face and neck. A more descriptive term would be jowl-neck lift. The nasolabial folds are not affected. Liposuction is usually done of the neck on the same day as the facelift. Local anesthesia is used with IV sedation and monitoring.

The incisions are made around the ears, as inconspicuously as possible, with the excess skin removed and the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) is “cinched up” with strong absorbable sutures beneath the skin which is what gives longevity to the lift. Skin sutures are removed in 6 days and make-up can be applied that day. Swelling generally resides in 1-2 weeks.
