What is Sclerotherapy?

Reticular veins are characterized by blue or green veins that are visible below the skin surface. These are also referred to as feeder veins due to the fact that they can cause spider veins if left untreated. Reticular veins are often hereditary and usually do not indicate a serious medical issue, but their pronounced appearance on the skin can be cosmetically unappealing.

Spider veins are small clusters of blue, purple or red veins that appear at the surface of the skin. Like reticular veins, the presence of spider veins is usually just a cosmetic concern, although spider veins can return if the right treatment is not utilized.

Sclerotherapy is a common form of vein treatment, and involves injecting medication into the unwanted veins. At Facials and Fillers Aesthetics Center, we use Asclera® injections to break down the cell lining inside the blood vessels. The veins clot with platelets and cellular debris, and close permanently. Over time, the clotted veins are naturally removed by the body and replaced with normal tissue.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

During your consultation, your overall health and current medications will be discussed. Men and women who have a history of allergies or clotting deficiencies may want to consider alternative forms of vein treatment.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

After the Asclera® has been injected into your veins, compression stockings or support hose should be worn continuously for two to three days and during the daytime for two to three weeks after that, which may vary depending on the type of veins treated. This compression, along with walking daily, can help prevent deep vein thrombosis.

Depending on the severity and condition of veins, multiple sessions may be necessary in order to achieve desired results. A treatment plan will be created for you during your consultation.
